On Saturday, October 4th, the Human Resource Management Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HRMATT) launched its first-ever Youth Mentorship Program at the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies—an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement. The event brought together students, emerging professionals, senior business professionals, and HR practitioners for a session of learning, networking, and inspiration, at a time when young professionals across the nation are seeking stronger career direction and workplace readiness.
Led by Adesia Orie, Chair of HRMATT’s Youth and Mentorship Committee, the programme seeks to nurture growth and career clarity among mentees while rekindling purpose and community among mentors.
According to Host and MC, Leah De Souza, the event was a “celebration” of HRMATT’s commitment to mentorship – uniting ambitious youth seeking career growth with accomplished professionals devoted to giving back.
In the opening address, HRMATT’s President, Cavelle Joseph St. Omer said the initiative had both individual and collective aims. She also stressed the importance of passing on wisdom from one generation to the next and introduced the 4C’s guiding the principles for this programme: Connection, Clarity, Compassion, and Commitment.
“When you receive the gift of coaching and mentorship, pass it on” was the call from Guest speaker and facilitator, Georgia Donaldson. Georgia led an invigorating session focused on bridging knowledge and action addressing topics such as appropriate business wear, networking, elevator pitches, and presentation skills. Her engaging, hands-on exercises kept participants actively involved throughout the session.
The highlight of the event included a lively speed networking activity, which gave mentees the opportunity to connect directly with mentors in timed rotations. Despite the closing calls, many conversations continued beyond the allotted time, reflecting the energy and enthusiasm in the room.
Programme Lead, Adesia Orie explained that alongside the personalised mentor-mentee sessions, participants will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses on Artificial Intelligence, Resilience, and Project Management over the next few months.
The event concluded with informal conversations and networking among participants, marking a strong start to HRMATT’s efforts to empower the next generation of professionals through structured mentorship and shared learning.

HRMATT Launches Youth Mentorship Programme: Nurturing Growth Through People- Personal Reflection
By Natalia Joseph
HR Professional and Mentor, HRMATT Youth Mentorship Programme
Every career reaches a point where reflection meets purpose, when you realise that what you have gained can now be shared with others. That moment came to life for me on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, as I joined HR professionals, business leaders, and bright young minds at the launch of the HRMATT’s Youth Mentorship Programme at the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies. Themed “Connect, Learn and Grow,” the event marked the beginning of a six-month journey designed to bridge generations, strengthen leadership, and promote national growth through people. The energy in the room was hopeful and determined, a mix of ambition, gratitude, and shared responsibility for shaping the future of work in Trinidad and Tobago.
As a mentor in this inaugural cohort, I have already been reminded that mentorship is not a one-way street but a partnership of growth. While mentees gain clarity, guidance, and encouragement, mentors gain renewed purpose, empathy, and perspective. Mentorship transforms leadership into service and experience into legacy. It is where knowledge meets kindness and where professional development becomes deeply personal.
As I left the launch that morning, I felt a quiet sense of pride, not in personal achievement but in the collective promise that filled the room. Mentorship reminds me that progress is never a solo journey. Every lesson I have learned and every piece of advice that shaped my path came from someone who chose to share their time and wisdom.
Now, it is my turn to do the same. This experience has reaffirmed that mentorship is not about hierarchy but about humanity. It is about seeing potential in someone else and choosing to nurture it. It is about believing that every conversation, every check-in, and every bit of encouragement can change how someone sees themselves and their future.
To mentor is to serve. To guide is to grow. And to invest in people is to invest in hope, the kind of hope that builds stronger careers, communities, and a better Trinidad and Tobago.
