The Human Resource Management Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HRMATT) hosted a Media Launch at the Hyatt Regency on Wednesday, August 14th 2024, to highlight the upcoming HR Legacy Awards. The awards will also coincide with the 35th anniversary celebration of HRMATT as an institution.

The Awards, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency on the 9th November 2024, will also serve as a continued homage to the enduring influence and evolution of Human Resource Management not only in Trinidad and Tobago, but also across the region. The awards will be presented to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence in the realm of HR during the past year.

The Media Launch was graced by past and present Board members of HRMATT along with Partners, Sponsors, notable Media personnel and distinguished guests. The evening’s event was chaired by Media Professional Ms. Kimberly De Souza. Joining her in addressing attendees were Mrs. Kimberley Chan-Boodram, Vice President of HRMATT and Ms. Fana Nelson, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of HRMATT; both of whom highlighted the core objectives of the awards to recognise outstanding contributions by leaders, professionals, and organisations in the local and regional HR sector.

In her opening remarks, President of HRMATT, Mrs. Cavelle Joseph-St. Omer, unveiled a new initiative to further pay homage to HR stalwarts at the upcoming Legacy awards, which were first introduced in 2022, called the HRMATT Hall Of Fame. The five inductees to the Hall of Fame are being recognised and honoured for their outstanding accomplishments within the HR community; and the ground-breaking HR strategies and technologies they introduced that significantly improved workplace efficiency, culture, and employee satisfaction.

This recent inclusion aligns with HRMATT’s ongoing goal to highlight individuals for their innovative and remarkable contributions in the ever-evolving worlds of the HR management landscape; and acknowledges their years of dedicated service. It will also serve to promote a culture of continuous development and cooperation within the HR community, thereby ensuring that the field remains adaptable to the changing demands of the contemporary workplace.

To mark its 35th anniversary, HRMATT also launched a Logo Design competition under the theme ’35 Years of Excellence – The HR Evolution Continues.’ The goal of this initiative was to encapsulate the organisation’s history and forward-thinking vision. The competition garnered numerous entries from talented designers across the nation, each eager to leave their mark on this prestigious milestone. After careful consideration, Smith’s Design was selected as the winner and was honoured with the design’s elegant reveal during the Media Launch.

The logo, a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation and the embodiment of HRMATT’s values, will proudly be used by HRMATT throughout the calendar year 2024-2025. Serving not only as a symbol of the association’s storied past, but also as a beacon of its ongoing commitment to excellence and progress in the field of human resources.

Attendees were also treated to a captivating and poignant performance by Spoken Word Poet Ms. Zakiya Gill; whose ‘cheering’ piece, was in honour of this significant occasion.

Ms. Rhonda Matthew-Garcia, Secretary for HRMATT, closed the event by expressing gratitude to all attendees and media partners (Freedom Radio 106.5, Guardian Media Limited, TTT) and recognising the sponsors, Eastern Credit Union, Xtra Foods, and Cinema One for their ongoing support and contributions.

As HRMATT celebrates these milestones, the upcoming Legacy Awards promises to be an evening filled with recognition, inspiration, and a renewed commitment to advancing the field of human resources. Attendees can look forward to a night of celebration, networking, and the honouring of those who have significantly contributed to the profession.

Nominations for other HRMATT Award categories will be open to the public from 14th August 2024 until 30th September 2024 and can be submitted at HRMATT’s Nomination Website at https://hrmatt.com/legacy-awards-nomination/. The Global Accounting and Advisory firm, Moore T&T will be responsible for compiling and producing the results of the nominations. Further details regarding the awards criteria and nomination process will be forthcoming and queries can be emailed to secretariat@hrmatt.com.

HRMATT invites you to join them on the 9th November, 2024 to commemorate its 3rd Annual Legacy Awards and the ongoing evolution of Human Resource Management in the region as, together, we continue to shape the future of HR and foster a community where innovation, leadership, and excellence are the cornerstones of success.
